Buffalo State student-athletes Shevaughn Allen (Buffalo, NY/JFK) and Nat Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, March 10 and 11.
Allen, a junior sociology major, finished seventh and earned First Team All-America in the triple jump with a leap of 14.83 meters. His mark earned him two more jumps in the championship final, where he secured his spot in the standings.
Sawyer, a freshman biology major, also earned First Team All-America for her fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a new school and SUNYAC record time of 55.96 seconds. Sawyer is the first SUNYAC runner to break the :56 second barrier; the previous mark was held by Madison Mulder of Geneseo with a time of 56.23. She also finished 14th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds to earn Second Team All-America.
Allen and Sawyer were named Bengal Athletes of the Week March 13 for their respective performances.
