Buffalo State University hosted SUNY Operation Inform on October 30, an annual event that invites school counselors, directors of guidance, and college advisors to join SUNY campus representatives for workshops addressing a variety of topics. The event also offers attendees the chance to converse with counseling colleagues and explore current topics in higher education.

“We’re proud that Buffalo State was selected to host this regional event, bringing together over 165 high school counselors from across Western New York and SUNY partners from across the state for SUNY’s Op-Inform event,” said David Loreto, executive director of admissions. “This gathering provided a vital opportunity to share updates and collaborate on impactful strategies for supporting students throughout the admissions process. SUNY’s commitment to fostering these connections ensures that every student’s experience is enriching, informed, and set up for success. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to these important discussions.”

The day began at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall and opening remarks from Randyll P. Bowen, Buffalo State’s vice president for enrollment management, and Nick Wockasen, admissions advisor at SUNY Delhi and president of the State University of New York College Admissions Professionals (SUNYCAP). Attendees then joined workshops on topics including transitioning from education to career, empowering student success, the ASAP and ACE programs, pathways to teaching, admissions in a post-COVID world, and understanding the SUNY system. They also participated in a professional meet and greet, listened to presentations on Buffalo State’s educational leadership and financial aid services, and took campus tours.

“Having the opportunity to bring over 160 counselors to campus to showcase what Buffalo State has to offer is a very unique situation,” Bowen said. “The admissions team did an amazing job demonstrating what a Buffalo State education is all about, and also supporting the notion that there is a place for every New Yorker at SUNY, regardless of what their educational pursuits may be.”
