Buffalo State Performing Arts Center Announces Spring 2020 Great Performers Series
The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center proudly announces the Spring 2020 Great Performers Series presented by M&T Bank. Performances this spring at the newly renovated Performing Arts Center include an exhilarating performance from Yamato - The Drummers of Japan, world renowned violinist Damien Escobar, British jazz band Incognito, and jazz/R&B/funk multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson.
Tickets for the Great Performers Series go on sale January 7 at 9:00 a.m. All shows in the Great Performers Series are priced between $35 and $49.50. Tickets may be purchased at the Buffalo State Performing Arts Center Box Office in Rockwell Hall, by calling (716) 878-3005, or online. Box office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Opening the series on Thursday, February 13, is a captivating and high energy performance from Yamato - The Drummers of Japan as part of their nationwide tour. Be amazed right from the start of the show witnessing dozens of players hitting a Japanese taiko drum made from a large 400 year old tree. Their live performances are full of intensity. Since Yamato originally formed in 1993, they have played in more than 3,500 performances in 54 countries to over seven million viewers. See Yamato's newest program, "Johnetsu,” as it captures their virtuosity, strength, spirit, and sheer endurance.
On Friday, March 27, the Performing Arts Center welcomes acclaimed violinist Damien Escobar on his “Elements of Love” tour. The NAACP Image Award nominee and Billboard chart topping artist first got national recognition performing with his brother in the group "Nuttin but Stringz" on NBC's America’s Got Talent. He released his first solo album, "Sensual Melodies," in 2013 and made appearances on The Today Show and Oprah Winfrey's "The Life You Want" tour. And after the release of his second album, "Boundless," Escobar has gone on to inspire change and spread positivity through his music by sharing uplifting messages and telling unfiltered personal stories to sold out shows across the country.
On Thurday, April 2, British jazz-funk bandIncognito makes their first ever appearance at the Performing Arts Center. The band originally formed in 1979 and is celebrating 40 years of positive vibes and undiluted jazz-funk. The group's successes include many top 10 hits, as well as producing and collaborating with dozens of legendary artists including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Marcus Miller, George Duke, Jocelyn Brown, and so many more. Incognito just released their 18th studio album titled "Tomorrow's New Dream" in November. Don't miss the rare opportunity to see these musical icons from Britain live right here in Buffalo.
The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center welcomesBrian Culbertson on his nationwide "XX" tour on Thursday, April 9. Over the course of crafting 20 albums, jazz multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Brian Culbertson has created more than 30 number one Billboard singles. His new album, titled "XX," is unlike any of his others because of its diversity.
"There's a lot of funky instrumentals, some pop-sounding tracks, a couple of slow jams, some straight-ahead jazz, gospel, some vocals, lots of horns, and some straight-up funk," says the Chicago-based Culbertson.
