Whitney Cummings

The Buffalo State University Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall is excited to highlight its fall 2026 series—another diverse and robust season for the PAC—featuring multiple award-winning and internationally acclaimed musicians, comedians, and more.

The series opens on Friday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. with Whitney Cummings: Big Baby Tour presented by Outback. Cummings first gained recognition as a stand-up comedian and has since become one of the most distinctive and influential comedic voices of the past two decades. She co-created and co-wrote the Emmy Award-winning CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, while simultaneously creating, producing, and starring in NBC’s Whitney. She currently hosts the hit podcast Good for You and starred in Friends: The Game Show on Max, a fan competition series celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic sitcom Friends.  Known for her bold, observational humor, Cummings is currently touring North America with her Big Baby tour, delivering her signature sharp wit and fearless perspective on navigating the world as a single mom. Her latest material dives into the chaos of personal growth, the comedy of owning your mistakes, and laugh-out-loud reflections on raising a son. Her stand-up continues to blend personal anecdotes with incisive cultural commentary. Cummings has released six acclaimed stand-up specials across Netflix, Max, and Comedy Central. Beyond the stage, she’s the author of the 2017 memoir I’m Fine…And Other Lies, which offers an unflinchingly honest and humorous look at mental health and resilience. That same year, she made her directorial debut with The Female Brain, which she also co-wrote and starred in.

Jim Messina

The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center presents iconic guitarist Jim Messina on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. An undisputed expert in the fine art of making hit music, Messina’s legacy of musical genius spans five decades, three super groups, a vibrant solo career and scores of producing and engineering credits. “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” “Angry Eyes,” “Danny’s Song,” “House of Pooh Corner,” and “You Better Think Twice” are just a few of his vast musical hits. While acting as producer/audio engineer for Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Buffalo Springfield, Messina ultimately joined the band as its bass player. When “the Springfield” disbanded in 1968, Messina and fellow bandmate Richie Furay formed Poco. With Messina on lead guitar, Poco defined a new musical genre: country rock. In November 1970, Columbia Records asked Messina to work with an unknown Kenny Loggins. While helping Loggins get ready for a record and touring, the two discovered that they worked well together and Messina agreed to sit in on Loggins’ first album. Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin’ In was released in November of 1971, and an accidental duo was formed. Over the next seven years, Loggins and Messina released eight albums, had scores of hit songs and sold more than 16 million albums. They had become one of rock’s most successful recording duos. Since then, Messina has been releasing critically acclaimed solo albums and playing to audiences across the country. Messina recently released his latest live album Here, There & Everywhere, with his new band, The Road Runners.

JB Smoove Live

The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center is proud to present legendary actor and comedian JB Smoove: Live! on Saturday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. Emmy Award-winning actor JB Smoove’s breakout role as Leon Black in Curb Your Enthusiasm cemented his place as one of today’s best comedic actors. After joining the cast of Curb in the show’s sixth season, Smoove remained an integral part of all subsequent seasons, earning him an NAACP Image Award nomination in 2012 and a SAG Nomination in 2018. Aside from Curb, Smoove has had a long and diverse television career. From writing on the iconic series, Saturday Night Live where he received a 2007 WGA Award for “Best Comedy/Variety Series,” to performing on camera in the sketch comedy show Cedric the Entertainer Presents, he has consistently demonstrated a propensity for creating interesting and original characters. Some of Smoove’s other television credits include Everybody Hates Chris, The Millers, Fresh Off the Boat, Life in Pieces, The Last O.G., the satire Real Husbands of Hollywood on BET+, History Of The World: Part II, and Mapleworth Murders, which earned him an Emmy Award. As an accomplished stand-up comic, Smoove’s mastery of physical comedy and ability to embody the stories that he tells have earned him the title of a “comedian’s comedian.” Over a thirty-plus year career, Smoove has entertained fans in clubs and theaters all over the country and around the world.  Smoove has also hosted NBC’s Last Comic Standing, along with a duo of Comedy Central specials: Russell Simmons Presents: The Ruckus and Russell Simmons Presents: Stand-Up At The El Rey.

Berkner also created two Laurie Berkner’s Song and Story Kitchen series with Audible Studios, who released them as ten-chapter audio books through the Audible Originals brand. Berkner’s “Greatest Hits” solo show features her classic songs like “Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz),” “The Goldfish (Let’s Go Swimming),” “We Are The Dinosaurs,” and “Rocketship Run,” as well as newer hits like “Waiting for the Elevator,” “My Bunny Goes Hop,” and “Onyx the Octopus,” plus—as a special treat for fans—a few well-loved songs that are not often heard at her full-band concerts! U.S. Army Field Band

On Friday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m., the United States Army Field Band performs a free show live at the Buffalo State Performing Arts Center. The Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of the U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components. Founded in 1946 and 1957 respectively, these two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions. The 60-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world, and just as often in the humblest auditoriums as in the smallest of communities. The union of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals. The band and chorus also perform independently and have recently shared the stage with such ensembles as the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. In addition to their national tours, formal concerts, chamber recitals, and educational outreach, members of the Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus frequently represent the Army at formal and ceremonial functions, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade, presidential funerals, the Army All-American Bowl, and diplomatic efforts overseas.

The Robert Cray Band: All Amped Up Tour

The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center presents The Robert Cray Band: All Amped Up Tour on Tuesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. Blues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things–and more. From forming a teenage garage band to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s greatest guitarists, Cray has sold millions of albums and countless concert tickets, won five Grammy Awards, been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and has designed two signature model Fender guitars—but for him, what’s always mattered most is the music. Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more. In 1978, he was cast (as a musician) in Animal House, the blockbuster comedy that made John Belushi famous. 1978 was also the year Cray recorded his debut album, Who’s Been Talkin’. Cray’s 1983 album Bad Influence established him internationally, and his 1986 album, Strong Persuader—released after he’d signed with Mercury Records—ensured he became the first blues/soul musician to breakthrough in the MTV era. That album led to Cray gracing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording in 1988, and supporting Tina Turner by joining her on stage every night and touring with The Rolling Stone. Across five decades, Cray has created richly inclusive American music, revitalizing both blues and soul while rocking hard with the very best. To achieve 50 years in the music industry and still be as fresh and committed as when starting out is an achievement few can boast of, but Cray can count himself among those few. He has released 19 studio albums, every one replete with extremely distinctive songs, won five Grammy Awards, and continues to make music that sounds like no one but Robert Cray.
