The late-August opening of an exhibit by Buffalo State alumnus Adam Kreutinger, ’11, ’16, titled Puppetry for Everyone was featured on WGRZ-TV 2 and WKBW-TV 7.

The WGRZ segment, “New Daemen University Art Exhibit Features Local Artist Who Makes Puppets,” on August 16, and the WKBW segment, “‘Puppetry for Everyone’: Puppetry Exhibit Now Open at Daemen University,” on August 20, interviewed Kreutinger, who was in attendance.

“When most people think of puppetry, they think of Sesame Street and the Muppets, and it makes them think it’s like, stuff for kids,” said Kreutinger, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art education from Buffalo State. “I wanted to show it as more of an art form—which it is—so I thought, let me meet the audience where they are, and so that way they get to see puppetry through a medium they are comfortable calling art.”

The exhibit, which pairs puppets with paintings, features more than 40 of Kreutinger’s puppet creations, some of which have been seen on Comedy Central and the Food Network. (In 2023, Kreutinger himself was featured on the Food Network as a contestant on Worst Cooks in America.)

Kreutinger also told WKBW that his more recent creations reflect his battle with brain cancer, which began with a diagnosis in 2022.

“I keep making the best I can,” Kreutinger said. “I'm not going to stop, though. I'm going to keep going.”

Puppetry for Everyone is on view through October 25 at Daemen University, when it concludes with a closing reception.
