This interdisciplinary minor includes the cultures, histories, languages, literatures, and contemporary legal and political issues of the Indigenous cultures of North America. Electives allow investigation of Indigenous cultures in Oceania, Central, and South America. The Indigenous Studies minor draws on information presented in Anthropology and Cultural Studies, History, English, Elementary Education, Literacy, and Educational Leadership, Geosciences, and Communication courses.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
1. Discuss the concept of culture.
2. Categorize archaeological data and apply these data to the interpretation of the past.
3. Discuss historical developments in literature written by Indigenous authors.
4. Define race, racism, and ethnicity and their intersections with gender, class, and sexuality.
5. Recognize, accept, and respect individual, biological, and cultural diversity.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of ethnohistory and historiography
7. Understand the ethical responsibilities expected of researchers working with human populations
Program Requirements
