About Urban Education
The M.S. in Urban Education prepares teachers intellectually and pragmatically to be effective in urban classrooms and to become leaders in urban school districts. Students seeking entrance into the program who have not had experience in urban settings will be required to work closely with at least one urban educator during their degree program in order to experience the urban classroom first-hand.
The Urban Civic Education minor emphasizes civic agency and is designed to inform the student about public work, public achievement, and community organizing. The minor encourages active participation through service-learning and public achievement models and reflection in the processes of social, political, and personal change. Courses in the program focus on critical analysis, social justice, and public action.
