Submit Application Fee

A $65 non-refundable application fee is required for all SUNY Buffalo State graduate studies applicants. 

Application Fee Exceptions

  • Active Buffalo State graduate students seeking to change their majors
  • Active-duty military, veterans, and their spouses may send a copy of their DD214 (military discharge), military ID, or military spouse ID to graduateadmissions@buffalostate.edu to request a fee waiver.
  • EOP, HEOP, SEEK, McNair Scholars, or CSTEP participants. Verification of eligibility required.

Submit Program-Specific Materials (If Required)

Some programs require additional documents (e.g., statement of intent, letters of recommendation, test scores) and/or supplemental application materials. 

It is the applicant’s responsibility to review the individual program admissions requirements before applying to determine if additional materials are required.

Check the graduate program list for specific admission requirements.

Graduate Programs

You may upload these materials through the online application. Some programs require the submission of separate documents which can be provided electronically, mailed to Moot Hall 110, or emailed to graduateadmissions@buffalostate.edu.

Send Official Transcripts

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted. 
  • Physical (paper) transcripts must be received in unopened, sealed envelopes and sent directly to 1300 Elmwood Avenue, Moot Hall 110, Buffalo, NY 14222 or to the applicant.
  • Electronic transcripts must be sent directly to graduateadmissions@buffalostate.edu. Electronic copies sent from the applicant will not be accepted.

Transcript Exceptions 

  • Buffalo State students are not required to submit transcripts. However, transcripts from all institutions attended must be provided, even if sent at the time of a previous application.
  • Conditional admission may be granted to applicants whose baccalaureate or master's degree have not been conferred or whose grades for the current term have not yet closed at the time of application.
  • Upon confirmation of degree, applicants must send a final official transcript showing the awarding of the degree. Failure to meet this requirement constitutes grounds for a rescission of acceptance and cancellation of course enrollment.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale).

Entrance exams, if required

Some Buffalo State departments require entrance tests such as the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or other materials for admission.
