Buffalo State Microcredential Offerings
What Is a Microcredential?
Microcredentials are short-term, focused areas of study designed to provide in-demand skills, know-how, and experience. These specialized academic programs take months to earn, not years, and many are stackable—forming a bridge toward a certificate or full degree.
Buffalo State's high-quality microcredentials offer a flexible and affordable way to stay competitive or branch out in today's changing workplace.
Paying for Your Microcredential
While a microcredential generally costs just a fraction of the cost of a full degree program, paying for an expense you may not have budgeted for is never easy. SUNY offers different ways to seek financial support to help you pay for your microcredential, including New York State Part-time Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for Non-Degree programs, employer or union tuition reimbursement programs, federal WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) funding, and more.

How Does It Work?
Buffalo State's microcredentials combine courses from our registered degree programs, innovative applied learning experiences, and preparation for industry certifications.
A microcredential could be coursework alone (the most common microcredential length is three courses), a series of workshops, or a combination of coursework and an applied learning experience or certification preparation.
